Frugal Living in The Woodlands Texas!
Friday, February 20th, 2009Most people today - even the ones living in million dollar homes are starting to tighten their spending habbits - and food is no exception - Living Frugal is the new chic among Americans.
Grocery stores are feeling the pinch and starting to drop their prices to get us coming back in to bring their revenue streams back up to a decent pace - but don’t be fooled - they may have some loss leaders to get you in the door but other products will be marked up to compensate for their deep discounting ways.
Scan the weekly ads and right now and lot of stores like HEB, Krogers, etc.. have a lot of 5 for $5 that are really a good deal - like HEB has Coke, Diet Coke - five for five - as well as Hot Pockets at the same price.
The unpublished deals are what you are really looking for - these are products that department managers at the last minute decide to mark at clearance price to get it out of their inventory -Yesterday while in Katy at an HEB Plus store my cousin found Ground Chuck marked at 99 cents a pound well it’s normall three times the price and she asked the person at the meat counter if they had more in the back at this prices and she was told no - that the manager had only 15 packages marked at that price.
So keep your eyes open while shopping and you will find these little food saving gems along the way to help out even more with your food budget.
Editors Note: Always go early in the morning to find these deals - Like 6 AM or When the stores have just opened - The main reason is that employees will scoop up these drastically reduced items before the customers see - Think about it - if they are making $8.50 or $9.00 an hour and they can get an affordable deal - like on the ground chuck - it will be gone very fast - so get in the store before they are all gone.
